Suicide and Monroe

Nothing like starting your day with an uplifting play about deranged teenagers who try to convince another to off himself. In all seriousness, Chatroom was well acted and while a bit dark to start off the day reminded us how nice it is to NOT be a teenager anymore.

My afternoon with Marilyn!

I walked in 5 mins. late no thanks to Chatroom starting 10 mins. late and having lingered a bit too much over a glass of wine. Part of the fun of The Fringe is rushing from venue to venue, map in hand, trying to get to your next performance in time. So, every minute counts. I've got to remember that.

I've never really been interested in Marilyn Monroe. After seeing The Unremarkable Death of Marilyn Monroe, I can honestly say I'm really keen on finding out more...maybe even watch some of her movies. Maybe.

The play is set in her bedroom. A manic, pill popping Monroe is telling us the story of her life. It's as if we are friends and she's sharing her deepest darkest secrets. She name drops friends, lovers, enemies and her unique experiences with them. Clark (Gable), Arthur (Miller), Joe (DiMaggio) and others are all mentioned by first name.  This makes it seem like you're really listening to Monroe herself! You find out intimate details of how the studios (Fox and RKO) used and abused her. The actress who played Marilyn was amazing. Totally loved it. Time to download some Marilyn movies when I get home!

I just got up from the most amazing nap ever. Time to put on a pretty face but I'm sure not as pretty as tonight's act: The Lady Boys of Bangkok - Glamorous Amorous Tour!

This is going to be a riot!  I've heard that this group can actually sing, dance and that the costumes are incredible. I cannot wait!
