UK 1 - NYC -2
Today was dedicated to female comics. By chance, the first two happened to be from NYC and I'm embarrassed for our city....for our women.
Not only were they not funny but I was baffled how they could even come up with the 10k plus it takes to put on a show. However, it is The Fringe and the point is to see new and emerging artists....whatever.
Yes, I know...
Laura Levites: Selfhelpless
I grew up Jewish. I don't consider myself religious anymore but I know the schtick. I have a few Jew girl friends who all share that same zany/neurotic outlook on life. This was an unoriginal Jewish girl from the east village who, ready for this, is on antidepressants, has IBS and thinks her mom is overbearing. Yawn.
Katie Goodman: I Didn't Fuck It Up
What's funny on YouTube may not be on stage. Granted, I've never seen her YouTube videos. That said, they've got to be funnier than her singing live on stage about being a hot soccer mom from NYC.
Chastity Butterworth & The Spanish Hamster
Finally! Something good.
It started to rain and being that I've been here long enough, I knew not to carry an umbrella with me. I was two pints in and itching for some red wine and a Game Of Thrones actress. Actually, I had no idea she was performing but sure, GoT is the reason I bought the ticket (all of 10£). Guilty, now punish me.
Chastity Butterworth, aka Gemma Whelan, plays the butch lesbian Yara Greyjoy on GoT. Her stand up character couldn't be more different. I could describe her as prim and proper with a penchant for anal sex. This was the ending of a fringe day I needed. Hilarious and sweet. We even got to see videos from ThreeIsNotAcrowd.com, a site where her and her husband put an ad on for "a third".
House Greyjoy will never be the same.

Typed on blogsy after 2 pints and 2 large glasses of red.
Long live The King of the North!
